Jacquet de Mantua worked within a context where musical style was shaped by the Council of Trent. Texts needed to be clear – encouraging use of homophony.
There are rare moments of dissonance and, at the word Domine, a wonderful section underpinned by perfect intervals.
You can catch the piece in live concerts, or on our new CD. This is just one of a superb range of pieces we enjoyed recording.
